What if the struggles in your marriage are not as random as they seem?
Many couples spend years battling arguments, emotional distance, bitterness, temptation, and frustration without realizing they are fighting symptoms instead of identifying the real source of the attack.
The truth is that the enemy has been using the same strategy against God's people since the Garden of Eden.
In 1 John 2:16, Scripture identifies three powerful temptations:
The lust of the flesh.
The lust of the eyes.
The pride of life.
These were the same tactics used against Eve in the garden and the same tactics Satan attempted to use against Jesus in the wilderness. Thousands of years later, they remain some of the enemy's most effective weapons against marriages today.
The lust of the flesh tempts us to satisfy legitimate desires in ungodly ways.
The lust of the eyes fuels comparison, discontentment, and the temptation to want what belongs to someone else.
The pride of life convinces us that we are always right, that we don't need to apologize, and that reconciliation can wait.
When these attacks go unchecked, they can create division between husband and wife and weaken the very covenant God designed to reflect His love.
But there is good news.
Jesus showed us how to overcome every temptation. Each time the enemy attacked, Jesus responded with the truth of God's Word.
As husbands and wives, we can do the same.
Guard your eyes.
Discipline your flesh.
Walk in humility.
Stay in God's Word together.
And never forget that your spouse is not the enemy.
God has called husband and wife to stand shoulder to shoulder, united against the real battle and committed to protecting the covenant He has entrusted to them.
A praying, surrendered, and Christ-centered marriage is far more powerful than the enemy wants you to realize.
